Accessing homework through Office.com

Most subjects will assign homework through Microsoft Teams. Students can view their assignments by logging on to office.com using their school credentials e.g. j.smith1@hfed.net

Some subjects may use additional platforms such as Sparx and Seneca, which will be made explicit at the start of term.

There are guides to help with these platforms at the bottom of this page.

Students can complete their homework using the Microsoft apps (Word, PowerPoint etc.) once they have logged in to office.com and should submit their work by uploading the completed documents to their folder in Teams.Screenshot of office.com


Key Stage 3 Specific

Year 7

Year 7 homework for English, Maths and Science are all set on a Monday and will be due the following Monday. Mathematics will set homework through Sparx, Science will set homework through Seneca, and English will set homework through Bedrock, along with a reading comprehension task. All other subjects will set homework fortnightly through Microsoft Teams on office.com

 

Year 8

Year 8 homework for Maths and Science will be set on a Monday and will be due the following Monday. Mathematics will set homework through Sparx and Science will set homework through Seneca. English will set homework on a Tuesday, with an additional assignment on Thursday or Friday depending on band. English will set homework through Bedrock, along with a reading comprehension task. All other subjects will set homework fortnightly, through Microsoft Teams on office.com

Key Stage 4 Specific

Year 10 students will receive approximately 11 pieces of homework per week, which should take 8 to 10 hours to complete. Towards the end of their GCSEs, Year 11s will be receiving approximately 3 hours of homework every evening.

Subjects with 3 periods per week will set one piece of homework each week. Subjects with 5 or more periods a week will set two pieces of homework. Mathematics will set homework through Sparx, while all other subjects will set homework through Microsoft Teams on office.com

Sparx for Mathematics

Mathematics will set homework through Sparx.co.uk and will set an account up for each student at the beginning of term. You will need to create a New Sparx User account on their website, which will link to the details your teacher will have entered for you at the start of term. If you encounter any problems trying to join Sparx, email your teacher or speak with them the following day.

Seneca Learning for Science

Science assign homework using senecalearning.com. Visit their website and sign-up for a free account. You can use your school credentials. Your teacher will email you a link or QR code at the start of term to enable you to join your class on Seneca.

Parental Support Guidance

Below is an outline of the homework students should be receiving, along with support you as a parent can provide to ensure they are progressing in that subject

English KS4
Year 10 students should spend 25 minutes on each evening that they study English reviewing their notes and creating a summary/mind map/ of flashcards. Yr11 - to follow the revision schedule to be posted online and complete 25 minutes of English revision each evening - teachers to assign additional work and request progress checks as needed

Provide a quite space for students to read and reflect on their reading

Maths KS3
Set on Sunday noon and due next Monday at 8:00 am  

Sparx will give you weekly updates on Child's progress. Please be vigilant and remind your child to complete weekly.

Fortnightly homework tasks set on teams. This will be in a booklet printed at the start of each half-term and given to students.

History KS4
Weekly homework, focusing on exam content and/or exam questions. This will be set on teams, tracked, and monitored by class teachers for completion. Students will also be given exemplary answer booklets to complete tasks from.

Fortnightly homework, this will be set on teams, tracked, and monitored by class teachers for completion.

Year 10: homework booklets that cover an entire half-term. Students are expected to complete the homework on content for the following week as flipped learning. Year 11: vocabulary sheets and past paper questions, or pages from revision or grammar booklets. Set on Teams as well as handed out in lessons

PE KS3
No homework set but we encourage all students to attend at least one PE extra-curricular club.

Encourage your child to take part in a club, support them with remembering to take their PE kit on the day of their club.

PE KS4
Microsoft Teams assignments will be set based around the unit of work that students are completing. When they are working on coursework this may be to respond to feedback or complete a task.

Check your child can access and submit assignments on teams. Support your child to watch and read sports news so that they see and learn about a range of sports.

Music KS3
Fortnightly quiz set in Teams

Check your child can access the Microsoft forms on Teams to complete the homework quizzes and listening tasks.

Music KS4
Accounts and logins have been given to students for Focus on Sound. Lessons and tests are set as weekly homework listening tasks. Details of each lesson to complete on Focus on Sound are provided on Teams. Student logins are also detailed on Teams. Students are also required to rehearse for their performance coursework regularly, at least once a day.

Support students with access to a computer to log in to and encourage students to listen to each musical example. Encourage students to listen regularly to a wide range of music to support their understanding of musical genres and styles. Ensure students are regularly practising their pieces for their performance coursework and encourage them to perform in front of friends and family to build their confidence and receive feedback. 

Art KS3
Homework booklets provided; one booklet covers one project. Will usually follow a pattern of: Artist research, drawing, interpretation. Extension tasks in back.

Ensure students look after booklets and complete the task set by the teacher to a high standard.  Students should spend at least an hour on their homework 

Art KS4
Homework is set on teams weekly. Homework is usually to finish coursework started in lesson and additional tasks. All homework set is coursework and counts towards final coursework grade.

Support students in meeting deadlines and the importance of this. Art equipment at home to complete work. Encourage students to visit galleries/museums, take photos of their own to support ideas. 

Media KS4
Fortnightly homework set on Teams. Will either be an online quiz, revision resource or exam question practice

Check students are meeting their deadlines as set on Teams. Quizzes are online and results can be recorded. Ensure students complete exam question practice homework with pen and paper and under time conditions (as directed by the homework)

IT/Computing KS3
Homeworks in OneNote each week based on the theory and tasks studied that week

Parents can get students to log in to their OneNote account to show them the homework tasks

IT/Computing KS4

 IT = coursework completion of tasks set in lessons

Business KS4
Homework individualised based on current progress in coursework with tasks set to complete by deadlines

Check students are meeting their deadlines in Teams and responding to comments from their teachers

Drama KS3
Complete workbook 

Check for spelling, punctuation, and grammar, and that the answer responds to the question. 

Drama KS4
Homework set on a Thursday due for the following week, will be various tasks across each component to make sure we are on track for the course 

Proofread and check through portfolios and work. Ask verbal questions based off what the child has written. 

DT KS3
A homework booklet will be provided and assigned fortnightly. There are 6 homework assignments which will be based on research and recap on theory learnt in lessons, drawing practice and design ideas linking to the final project.

Parents can check the homework via Teams or students' homework booklet and encourage students to complete all tasks to the high standard and attempt the higher challenge task indicated on homework page.

DT KS4
Year 10 Homework will be set weekly alternate between theory and coursework preparation
Year 11 Homework set weekly linking to the completion of coursework.

Parents to ensure that students have access to computer and internet to complete the coursework to the highest standard. Coursework tasks schedule has been given to students, parents can check and support students in meeting the deadlines.
